Learning How to Use a Gimbal

My youngest child gave me a gimbal stabilizer to use when making videos with my cell phone, and I had been struggling to put it to use. So, when Jamie came to visit last week we took it with us on a walk at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.

The gimbal we were learning to use is a Smooth-Q4 made by Zhiyun but the app for it is called ZY Cami. This is what it looks like when standing on its tripod:

This is a diagram of how it looks when you hold it with a cell phone:

And these are most of the controls I had to figure out how to use:

Here is a video I took while walking in the park. I also climbed up the steps to a lookout platform and I think the stabilizing feature worked well. If you have the sound up you can hear Jamie and me figuring things out, but you can also enjoy the video if you mute it.

  1. The ending; just tap it! I would have not figured that out. How cool you are taking on more technology. I appreciate a personal tutor when I endeavor to learn new things like that. I have a feeling you/we are going to enjoy this new piece of equipment. I liked seeing your shadow ahead of you, as that also instructed where you holding it. We are unusually, still snow/ice covered, so I also enjoyed your winter walk.
