There is a five-way intersection in Nanaimo where Bastion Street, Fitzwilliam Street, Fraser Street and Wallace Street all meet. That convergence has created an odd little triangle of land that the city has turned into a pocket park with a bench and flowers. The building beside the park has a wall that has been turned into an amazing, huge, vertical garden.
Beside the wall is a sculpture by David Martinello entitled Compelling Agency, and the descriptive plaque asks us to consider our relationship with the environment. I have to say that I love the environment for this sculpture!

Very nice.
It’s a tiny oasis.
Oh, my. I do that that compelling.
I know! And most people just walk by.
What luxury, to be able to take that spot for granted.
Oh, yes! That is so wise, Lorna.
Such a great idea to turn this into a place to sit.
I thought so, too!
