Dahlia Delights

The person who lived in this condo before me had looked after several large pots of plants that still live on the patio, and I have been enjoying their company. As the weather cools, I am thinking about winterizing, but I have been reluctant to cut down the dahlias because they still have some lovely blooms. So, today, I cut a few of the remaining flowers and put them in a vase to enjoy them indoors. I particularly like the colours of the peach-coloured blooms and I hope they come back next year.

  1. I just dug my dahlias yesterday. We have to overwinter the bulbs inside here. This is the first year I grew them. So beautiful.

  2. Yes, you have to dig them up for the winter and plant again in the spring at least in Ontario. Wonderful colors.

    • I will do that, Barb. I’ve looked at a few local gardening websites that say you can leave them in the ground or in pots in Nanaimo, but if you dig them up and replant in spring, the flowers bloom earlier.
