Show Me Your ID!

My daughter-in-law’s mother, the lovely Louise, recently introduced me to a new feature on iPhones. If you click on the “i” information logo on the bottom of an iPhone photo, it will give you the opportunity to identify the flower or bird in the frame. It probably identifies other plants and creatures, too, but so far I have only used it to identify flowers and birds.

As I noted in a comment to my previous post, it didn’t recognize Oregon Grape holly, perhaps because the grapes are not flowers. Instead, it thought it was Barberry, but the leaves are wrong. So, it isn’t a perfect system, but I like it a lot regardless.

My iPhone was very confident that the birds I photographed were a White-Crowned Sparrow and a Great Blue Heron, and I think it was correct.

  1. Yes, I’m trying that on my iPhone with the plant identifier and am not 100% confident in the results. But I’m enjoying trying!
