A Clear Day at Jack Point Park

This morning was beautifully clear and bright, and Jack Point Park gave my friend and me lots of interesting sights to enjoy.

At the entrance to the park is a lovely sculpture; Bliss by Dick J. Vandereyk. Just a short walk further on we saw frost-covered driftwood on the beach. Then, for the first time, I saw a Black Oystercatcher! At the same time, we watched a fisher casting what we think were crab pots into the water.

There were lovely views across the water from the point to the city of Nanaimo. We could see the buildings where we live on the far side and lots of ducks on the near side. In between, a tug was pulling the longest log boom I have ever seen.

As we rounded the point we first heard then saw lots of seals playing in the water. At times they leaped out but, of course, I couldn’t get a picture of the most impressive jumps. Even so, it was a treat to stand and watch. All in all, it was a great morning. Click on the arrows to see some of my pictures.

  1. Anne, I guess you did the right thing moving to Vancouver. Since Christmas I’ve mostly been staying indoors trying to keep warm with one of those long-term winter colds, venturing out once in a while to one of my meetings.
