As I was walking home from the store this morning, I just caught sight of a heron before it ducked inside the square-shaped ferry boom. I don’t know what these things are called, but they look like floating booms used to contain oil spills but these seem to be placed to stop the ferry drifting into the sea wall.

At the time, the ferry was on its way back from Gabriola Island, so I waited for it to dock, hoping that the heron would pop its head up again and, sure enough, it did. It was standing on a log that rose up with the water level.

Nice Shots!
Thanks, Sally. Not the most photogenic backdrop, but I was happy to get the shots.
