From 2009 to 2020 I was a snowbird. Snowbirds (aka Dark-eyed Juncos) leave Canada in the winter and return in the spring, and people who do the same are also called snowbirds. Years ago, I planted a Bird of Paradise shrub in a pot and put it out on my patio in California, and I have combined the two “birds” in the title of this blog. I hope you will enjoy reading my thoughts about the things that come my way.

Covid-19 required me to end my winter travels to the US and in the intervening years my circumstances changed. I now live in Nanaimo, British Columbia, which is on Snuneymuxw First Nation territory. I should no longer call myself a snowbird, but I have become fond of the name of this blog and there are several regular readers who recognize it, so I think I will keep the name as it is.
