Yacht Wrapping

I have been intrigued to watch some of the yachts in the marina being prepared for winter. They are wrapped up like the most difficult to wrap Christmas gifts. That reminded me of the year my parents bought me a hula hoop, but that is another story. There is something very sweet about swaddling a […]

Driving In A Winter Wonderland

On Christmas Eve my son drove his family and me out to my daughter-in-law’s family for the holiday. They live in Blackfoot, Alberta and the drive took about three hours. It would normally be a quicker journey but we were slowed down by ice on the road part of the way there. Or, as Canadians […]

Magpies Taking Turns

After I hung out a birdseed feeder, I watched two magpies taking turns to eat the seeds and nuts. They ate about a third of the seed ball in less than an hour.

Capilano Park in Winter

Yesterday my eldest son introduced me to a park I had not visited before, and it was a treat. Capilano Park provides walking trails, skiing trails, and an off-leash dog park. It also has great views of the city of Edmonton and the North Saskatchewan River. I was a little nervous that I might slip […]

Moonlight Becomes You

The moon seemed larger and brighter than usual this evening. Here are a few pictures and a little Bing Crosby.

If At First You Don’t Succeed . . .

The process for finding and meeting a psychologist isn’t hard, but when you are depressed it seems like a pathway strewn with obstacles. At each roadblock, it is easy to just give up. Having overcome some of those setbacks, I would strongly encourage anyone who is feeling unusually despondent to stick with it. With the […]

Winter in the Hood

It’s just starting to get cold around here and everyone has taken their winter clothes out of storage. Puffy jackets are once again de rigueur. For those of you unfamiliar with the Canadian winter, you should know that it is very difficult to find exactly the right coat. We expect a lot from our outerwear […]
