For the first time, today I went to visit the island that I see every day from my window. Saysutshun / Newcastle Island is a short ferry ride from Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo, and well worth the trip.
A friend and I both enjoyed seeing the island and the magnificent trees beside the 4.5 km hike along the water’s edge. We saw lots of gulls, geese, and various little shorebirds as well as a woodpecker, and a racoon that ran across our path. The views were splendid at every turn.
What a glorious day! Beautiful things to see and investigate! Geese! Especially like the native totem pole.
Those geese were being very protective of some little goslings. They didn’t let us get too close!
I love the preserved history of this place. Pictures are beautiful as always .
Thank you, Susan.
