Butterfly World, Coombs

In Coombs, British Columbia, is a magical place. Butterfly World provides environments that replicate several natural habitats for butterflies, turtles, frogs, orchids, and insects. I tried to get as many pictures of the butterflies as I could, but they don’t sit still very much.

When I was there, the beautiful Blue Morpho butterflies were mating. A member of staff told me I was lucky because “This is the Morphos time.” The luminous blue on the upper sides of their wings is only visible when they are flying. When they stop to mate or to feed, they show only the brown colours of the under sides so that they blend in with their surroundings.

Here are some of the pictures I took of butterflies and a few short videos.
