In 1997 the former Canadian naval vessel HMCS Saskatchewan became an artificial reef east of Nanaimo. This mural on Front Street by artist Jeff King portrays that vessel in situ, continuing to be of service.

We were out on the water when this event took place. I was quite something to behold. Artificial reefs are biological bonanzas for sea critters and massively increases biodiversity. We also toured Saskatchewan before its sinking and it was a big undertaking to clean it of pollutants AND anything that could snag divers exploring the underwater hulk. I’ve not seen the mural; thanks for posting it! Beautiful.
It is an excellent mural in a spot that doesn’t get much foot traffic, right next to the Court House.
