This is one of many houses near Edmonton city centre that have become old and disused. Some are a hundred years old. They would cost a fortune to renovate and retrofit, so they sit empty. The boards across the doors and windows are an attempt to keep out the homeless, but in a Canadian winter any shelter is a good shelter. This house sits on a corner lot, which is worth a lot more than the house.

Wow..abandoned.
Yes, indeed.
Welcome to Thursday Doors ! This is sad to see, but I guess it happens everywhere.
Yes, it is a sign of change. There is much debate about gentrification, but some houses just cannot be saved.
We see this often around here, when houses have not been well maintained for years.
I like to think that the family moved on to greener pastures.
The door section alone is great artwork. I love the textures on it.
There is something very attractive about old wood with paint peeling.
That is sad looking at this.
Unfortunately, there are several houses that look like this in my neighbourhood. I often wonder why the owners don’t tear them down if they cannot be repaired.
Yes, I wonder. But maybe that’s extra expense. Who knows.
You are probably right. Aside from being unattractive, I think they must put people at risk if they go in or around them.
