A recent walk took me to two parks on the south side of Edmonton, both of which include some surprisingly thoughtful details.
Empire Park is at 107 Street and 47 Avenue, and it includes the building for the Sahaja Meditations Centre which has a delightful mural by Cen Yang Lanting.
The grounds beside the Learning Disabilities Association building are at 106 Street and 45A Avenue. Within those grounds is a lovely area of trees, and among the trees is a circle of stones which are perfectly placed for a meeting, a picnic, or a campfire.
Leading away from the stone circle is a path which turns back on itself and returns to the stones. Embedded in the path are some stepping stones which are leaves cast in concrete. Someone went to a great deal of time and trouble to create those stepping stones and to design the path. I like to think that it is a short meditative detour. Or, perhaps there are fairies at the bottom of the garden. Who knows?
