Deep Freeze Festival Ice Sculpture

Earlier this month, there was a winter festival in our Edmonton neighborhood. It is called the Deep Freeze Festival and the theme this year was Winter Tales. When I arrived back in Edmonton on Monday, one thing that caught my eye on our journey home was an ice sculpture only a few blocks from our house that was created for the festival.

At first glance in daylight, it does not look remarkable but on closer inspection, you can see the details. It was created by ice carvers Edith van de Wetering and Wilfred Steijger from Holland and looks its best when lit up at night. It tells the story of a horse and sleigh pulling an evil Narnia-like ice queen as she kidnaps unsuspecting children.
